The healing time with navel piercing lasts much longer than with other types of piercing. The main reason for that is the pieced belly button is always covered with some clothes, which limit air access and thus delay the healing process. Besides constant contact of the clothes with the navel irritates the perforation and can cause more serious side effects, such as different infections or even blood poisoning.

Extreme attention should be paid to the tools used for perforation. They have to be sterilized and made only of some special metals like stainless steel or titanium. The jewelry you wear should be kept cleaned and, if possible, sterilized as well. It is not recommended to have several perforations done on the navel at the same time. You have to wait until the first perforation heals. It is better not to toy with your jewelry and clean the place of the perforation twice a day with the help of antibacterial soap and boiled warm water. The rest of the time you have to preserve it dry.

The best way to accelerate the healing process is to treat the place of the perforation with salted water. You should take a tea-spoon of sea salt and dissolve it in some ammount of sterilized water. Then you pour this solution into a medicinal cup, turn it over and hold it on the navel for a quarter of an hour. If you regularly repeat this procedure, your navel perforation will heal much sooner.
